Google blesses Nexus One with multitouch

Google has just launched a new software update for their Nexus One handset that enables something people have been asking for since the open-source mobile operating system was announced; multitouch.

At the moment, gestures are limited to only pinch-to-zoom, however, this is one of the most used on the iPhone platform which Android is most often compared to, so this is big news in the evolution of the OS.

The update also brings a fix to some of the 3G issues affecting the handset, as well as integrated Google Goggles (the ability to search by point the phone's camera at things) and a new night-driving mode of those lucky enough to have a Nexus One and have access to Google Maps Navigation (the company's free sat nav offering).

The update will be pushed over-the-air to users.
