Razer Lycosa![]() All proper PC gamers have a proper gaming mouse. To go along with that, most gamers will pair that with a proper gaming mousepad, maybe even a good sound system or headset. Many though, will not have thought about the keyboard. Sure, you have the somewhat cumbersome Zboard and who can forget the G15 we reviewed a rather long time ago? However they both cost a pretty penny and the benefits over standard equipment really cannot be seen by anyone other than the hardcore. That’s why we’re looking at the baby of Razer’s keyboard family; the Lycosa. Although hitting the UK around now, we’ve been playing with it for a few months (albeit with the slightly confusing US layout – not a problem for you UK consumers though), and must say, we’re mightily impressed. The slightly rubberised keys are a cross between normal keys and the light-relief ones found on laptops, which makes it easy to use for a notebooker like myself to adjust to, and I was touch typing within minutes. There has been a lot of debate about which is best for gaming, however, my personal preference is the light-relief keys found on this unit, as the fingers can slide from key-to-key, as opposed to lifting every time. Looks wise, the unit is very slick with its glossy black bezel and neon blue glow from the keys. However, if you don’t like this glow, you can use on of the touch sensitive controls in the top right hand corner to change the intensity of the light. You won’t find any useless media keys or excess function buttons apart from the touch controls (which work well, by the way) on this beauty, so it isn’t cluttered like some gaming units. Perhaps slightly more expensive (c.£55) than a standard keyboard, when compared with the £90-100 ones we’d traditionally recommend it represents great value for money. All the capabilities you need without any of the excess gunk; perfect. |
