Cockburn's Light Dry White Port![]() For those that like the finer things in life, a glass of port with some cheese and biscuits after a hefty meal is one of life's little pleasures. The standard tipple is red and heavy and dark, but of course, like all things nowadays, there is an alternative. Introducing; Cockburn's Light Dry White Port. It comes in a rather distinct straight-up bottle, with a very slender body to it, with a cork and plastic stopper in the top. No decanting is required, in fact, this port is bottled for immediate drinking, and as it is designed to be served chilled, it can be enjoyed with minimal fuss for any occasion. In fact, it can be enjoyed as much as an aperitif as it can an after dinner sipper. In the mouth it immediately tastes smoother than some ports, and has a rather distinct flavour very similar to that of a good sherry. It slides down without too much fuss either, and has none of the burning sensation associated with other short drinks. I'm personally not an expert at flavour noticing in wine/spirits, but it claims to be zesty with citrus notes, and I wouldn't argue on that score. With the proper summer only just around the corner (we hope), it would make a perfect accompaniment to a summer BBQ or dinner party. |
