News Movie

There are some things that carry well over the Atlantic and some that do not. Satire isn’t normally one of them, with the Americans being too crude and us too sarcastic, our humours never really correlate. Fortunately with the ‘News Movie’, it has worked.

This is the film that is associated with The Onion, the rather dry fake-news website that has a rather huge following the US, and as such is still all American humour; but the kind that us more sensitive Brits can play along nicely with (although, it still isn’t a film for the family, the fake Britney bit is fantastic).

When it was first announced, we were hesitant as to whether a feature film could be made from the little news clips from the website, but they’re all blended into a superb mesh of a wide, over-the-top storyline and snippets of laugh out loud news stories.

It isn’t the highest-brow satire, and mainly pokes fun at the American newsreader culture, so if you aren’t remotely aware of how their TV shows work, you might not get it (although, you would only not know if you spend all your viewing time watching choirs on a Sunday afternoon).

The best of the bunch though is the Steven Seagal fake-movie-trailer ‘Cockpuncher’, it really is hilarious and should be seen by as many people as possible.

A very funny film that, whilst it wont win any Oscars, is certainly entertaining enough to watch.
