The Rough Guide to Videogames
The book is printed on top quality paper, and has a fully glossy cover and full colour insides (although for a book printing screenshots, it would have to be) and although not a standard size, it doesn’t look amiss on the bookcase. You start the book with an introduction to the various players in the history of the console world, and even being a videogame journalist myself, learnt a lot of new facts and interesting titbits that have cropped up over the history of gaming. The main draw of the book though is the “Canon”, the list of 70 of the (authors’ opinion) best and most highly respected games that have ever been released. It’s informative but written in an easy-going style that keeps you reading, even if you know all there is about the game in question. Nicely written, easy to read, printed well and priced at a competitive £13.99 in time for the Christmas gift season, a very nice book for the uninformed and the informed alike. |
