Rackspace goes down again today

After a bout of downtime last week, it appears that one of the world's most well known hosting companies, Rackspace, has had another power problem at their Dallas facility.

Those of you who are hosted by them in the UK shouldn't be affected as they have a dedicated facility near Heathrow, but for our US readers you may have been experiencing problems throughout the day, and you might not be out of the woods yet.

If you are still experiencing problems you can drop them an email (which they gave out on their official Twitter account.

Gmail out of beta

Finally Google has announced that Gmail has been released from the shackles of the Beta tag it's been carrying for the past 5 years or so.

This comes in the wake of Google's push (with its new paid-for Apps) to go for the enterprise sector who have an aversion to software which isn't done yet. So they've dropped the Beta tag on Gmail to go after businesses and their IT budgets.

Still, Gmail is free for consumers and we thank them for *finishing* it.

ROCCAT smart desktop management system

Since playing with one of their early mousepads last year, ROCCAT has been on our lips almost continuously, but now they're teasing us more than ever before with their new SDMS (Smart Desktop Management System).

It is essentially a group of four products that link together to make your desktop easier to manage, whilst still performing at the high-end for gaming.

From the product page it appears the first product in the range (due to be announced this week) will be the Apuri USB Hub which we broke the news on a few weeks back.

Head on over to the website for more details.

TalkTalk completes Tiscali UK buyout

TalkTalk has confirmed that they have completed on their £236m cash buyout of Tiscali UK, one of the major UK broadband and telephony providers.
How this will affect customers (if at all) is unclear.

This is a pretty major deal for those people involved with either company as TalkTalk caters to the lower-end of the broadband spectrum whilst Tiscali tends to play to the middle ground.

Feedly start page Firefox plugin

We're normally pretty hot on web technology, but Feedly pretty much slipped through our radar, so after a tip from @joedawson on Twitter, we went to investigate the service.

Regular readers will know that we at RandomlyAccessed use Internet Explorer for the majority of the time, but Feedly is making the case for Firefox nearly insurmountable.

Sony launches a *gasp* netbook

Sony have always been one of the harshest critics of the netbook market (and their comments were sound, although their response in the VAIO P was miss-timed with the credit crunch), so it was with a good dose of surprise that this morning Sony is announcing the VAIO Mini W series netbook.

Full info when you click the title, but you can be sure that this thing packs an Intel Atom Processor N280, 160GB hard disk drive, 1GB RAM and Windows XP.
