Posted by Steve on 01/7/09Google minor redesign Has Google had a minor redesign? The search page now sports a border running around the edge of the page, a seemingly smaller logo and a bit more white-space.Is this a slight CSS error, or a very slightly new look for the GOOG? Tips on a postcard would be nice. |
Posted by Steve on 01/7/09Tech IPOs get shot in the arm with LogMeIn float Reuters is reporting that LogMeIn (the virtual desktop software that allows you to control your PC from any other computer with a net connection) has sold 6.7 million shares raising nearly $107m before trading (under the ticker name LOGM).This comes off the back of a lean spell in technology IPOs due to the economic crisis, with only one in past six months. We'll report back when the markets open, and we get a good look at how it'll perform under open trading. This is merely comment, and is not trading advice. [Source] |
Posted by Steve on 30/6/09Firefox 3.5 HTML5 hands on It seems the web is abuzz with the news that Firefox 3.5 has been released, giving you the world access to a small glimpse of the power of HTML5 with the "video" and "audio" tags we were talking about in our The Video Bay piece. We'll have a more in-depth look at the browser later on, but we must start with a peek at the ogg/theora open audio and video. Posted by Steve on 29/6/09Why Twitter drives traffic around the web Twitter is fast coming-of-age, there's celebrities, spam, news, funnies - the works. However, a use that many of the detractors (who keep on hurling abuse at the service) either don't know about or forget to mention is breaking news. It's been covered in detail by some members of the press - the Hudson River crash for example - but on a micro level it's perfect. Posted by News on 29/6/09The Video Bay preview launches Those people behind the P2P search engine, The Pirate Bay, are at it again with the launch of their latest project; The Video Bay (surely to the judges' dismay as the founders of TPB were handed down jail sentences earlier this year but are appealing). In keeping with how TPB works, people will be free to share clips on the site whether they're copyrighted or not as it seems (how long that can be sustained remains to be seen). Posted by News on 29/6/09EU adopts micro USB mobile charger standard This is a major coup, and could even help reduce phone prices even more (granted only a few Euros here or there, but savings are savings) due to cross-compatible chargers. Expect it to crop up in devices hitting us from early 2010. Apple is even expected to play ball, so the next iPhone should be packing a micro USB port. |
Posted by News on 29/6/09New EU Roaming Caps Also, by March 2010, you shouldn't be stung on your bill, as a new 50 Euro cut-off mechanism is being introduced. So, your bill should be a fair bit cheaper if you're descending on the continent this summer. |
