Posted by SteveF1 2009 iPhone game hands-on We've been meaning to try the official Formula One iPhone/iPod Touch game since it was announced last week, and since it has now been released onto the App Store for download, we thought we'd give you our hands-on look.First of all, the app looks slick, with the graphics being on par with the best racing games on the platform, and similar in feel to the PSP and Wii games this is following from (both from Codemasters). It follows a rather strange, but intuitive control-system, with both the accelerator and brake on the right hand side, with a KERS (gives you speed boost, at the press of a) button on the left where other games keep the brake. Posted by SteveFling for the iPhone Another app that we've been having a play with is Fling, which is made by the same development team that brought you Fuzzle for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The premise is simple, but like many apps is quite hard to convey, fling your furballs into each other to knock them off the screen. You can only knock others off the screen (meaning you can't just fling the one your finger is on off the side) with a single furball, and you cannot hit one directly next to you. This means that it is a tactical puzzle game, if you make a wrong fling, you might have scuppered your chances of getting rid of other furballs on the board. It's a game you'll keep coming back to, as it does have that tactical twist. If you're looking for a 59p app with decent replayability, then Fling makes a very good case for itself. Search for "Fling" in the App Store. |
Posted by SteveAqua Globs iPhone game Another entry in our growing look at the apps cropping up on modern smartphones/devices looks at another game for the iPhone; Aqua Globs.Much in the same way as other games rely on you using your finger to define a route (as our two favourite apps; Flight Control and Harbour Master do), the object of Aqua Globs is to join up little water-borne "globs" with similarly coloured ones with the same number of fins. If you have two Orange globs on your screen, and they both have a single fin on their back, then you can guide them together to make an Orange glob with 2 fins, which can then be combined with another two-er to make a three-er. Posted by SteveRoadkill Cafe iPhone game We've been getting pitches from a variety of iPhone app developers over the past few weeks, and we're going to do our best to accomodate them.First up is Atommo Games with their Roadkill Cafe game. The premise is simple, move your pickup around the map (dodging cars, trucks and bikes) and pick up the run-over meat and deliver it to your cafe. Handling is done either by moving your finger in the direction you'd like to move or you can select the tilt option, with both feeling intuitive for use (although using your fingers is easier, it can sometimes block your view). Posted by SteveFlip UltraHD We recently had time to play with the new Flip UltraHD pocket videocamera and as the market for these has exploded over the past year or so, it would be interesting to see what a higher-end model could do.Size-wise, the unit is a fair bit larger than the non-HD Flip Mino that we also have in the office, and although it is chunkier most mobile phones, it doesn't seem to add any weight to a jean or jacket pocket (although it would definitely look out of place in skinny jeans). Posted by NewsHarbour Master Ep 3: Smugglers Reef We've just downloaded the latest release of Harbour Master for the iPhone (essentially a harder Flight Control with boats), with the latest map; Smugglers Reef. This time the boats come in with both colours of cargo, and you have to move them from one side of the map to the other side with the different coloured ports. We've not offered our full opinion on the game yet, as we were waiting for a few more maps, but with the regularity of updating, it appears we'll be treated to a fair few updates in the next few weeks.
